Is the Economy really getting better or is that what sophisticated algorithms tell us?

Per the Institute for Supply Management’s Index, a very reputable service, tells us that U.S. manufacturing order rose for 5th consecutive month from 53.6 to 55.9. This represents the highest level in over 3 years (April 2006).

The same report indicates employment rose over a point to 52, the 3rd month in a row, demonstrating 3 months consecutive employment growth following over a year of decline.

New manufacturing orders were also up 5.2 percent, indicating increased consumer confidence.

Hmmm, does it ‘feel’ like an Economic Recovery to you?

Big Ben

Here’s what I think: these are the same geniuses armed with ‘data’ and utilizing sophisticated algorithms which didn’t foresee the biggest market drop in 70 years…so we have a hard time believing them.

Use Twitter? Let's Get Indiana to Trend Today!

Internet & Social Media - Twitter
Wednesday, 02 December 2009 23:10

Tweeters from the banks of the Ohio River to the shores of Lake Michigan will donate one minute to the future of our state by sending a tweet containing “#Indiana” The goal is to get #Indiana to trend among the top ten words on twitter, exposing our state to the global twitter audience for a GOOD reason - not because there's been some tragedy or a bad referee call (Bob Burchie informed me that #Indiana trended October 31 when there was a questionable call at an IU game)

It is easy to participate => when you tweet December 3rd simply add "#INDIANA" in a few of them. And if you focus on the lunch hour, we might reach a critical mass and break through.

That's it! Tweet something fun about #Indiana or mention your favorite #Indiana tradition or vacation spot. Better yet tweet a link to your business or a news story - just don't forget the "#Indiana". Let's show the global twitter audience how cool Indiana can be!

If you want to put an #Indiana twibbon on your twitter avatar to show your support - just go to Twibbon.com.

It was one of the "deadliest days in US law enforcement history."  It really did read like something out of an old Western movie: An outlaw, out after being given a second chance in another state by a prominent political figure, walks into an eating establishment, and guns down four police officers before getting away.  Eventually, this sets up a climactic scene in which a lone officer catches up to the fugitive, and shoots and kills him.

This actually happened in Seattle over the last five days, but you are about three times more likely to know more about the rumors surrounding the nation's highest-paid athlete's alleged indiscretions and wayward driving.

At first I thought it was just the circles I run in that made the Tiger Woods Hydrant-gate episode ubiquitous.  I follow a lot of PR people on Twitter and the blogosphere.  Tiger's troubles, if nothing else, are a case study in poor PR management.  Then I did a simple Google news search: As of Tuesday afternoon, when both stories were reaching their climax, "Tiger Woods accident" yielded 14,669 stories, "Seattle police shooting," 5,122.

Events - Linking Indiana
Thursday, 03 December 2009 00:16

You'll have to excuse me if I seem a little excited, but we are going to be launching the third Linking Indiana sponsored event on Monday, December, 7.  Last time we helped promote an event, over 2,700 people showed up to Chocolate Blues and Business.  This time out, we've got a totally one of a kind event featuring seminars, networking and an amazing dinner event featuring local entertainment that can only be described as world class.  Really.  Stay tuned for the announcement, and save the day on January 19 for what I hope am certain will be the premier business event of 2009.
