Should You be Twittering? |

Ok, I've been on Twitter for a while. It's fun. It's entertaining. But is it the right place to put your business in Indiana? If we look at Twitter use numbers in Indiana (recommendation: download and read the survey), the conclusion is probably not. Less than 13% reported they regularly used it. Sorry, Your Free WiFi Sucks |
People use Wifi for critical life activities.
If you offer free WiFi to your customers, kudos. It's hard to argue with 3-6 customers per day for about $120 per month. Even McDonalds, BW3 and Applebees get it. If you don't offer your customers Free WiFi, you are living in the past and have little future. But if you do have WiFi, does it suck?
If your Wifi isn't bulletproof reliable, well, you are making lifetime enemies. Nothing, and I mean nothing is more frusterating that going somewhere to get a meal and check the email, only to find you just wasted $10 on food and one hour of your life only to find out the internet is broken.
Does your WiFi have a log in screen? No? You are missing out on adding 3-5,000 people per year to your email list. For business owners, the killer application for free Wifi isn't the three orders a day you pick up, it's the growth in the mailing list and the long term gains driven by more participation in birthday clubs and other

Yelp.com at Center of Extortion Controversy |
Today, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Yelp.com, the social media site that lets "reap people" leave "real reviews" of businesses and restaurants has been targeted in a lawsuit that alleges that Yelp.com employees have engaged in extortion. The suit alleges that if a negative review of a restaurant is posted Yelp workers will call the restaurant and offer an advertising package that will remove the negative review for a price around $300.
The case is pending in a Los Angeles federal court.
This case raises some very serious questions for Yelp.com users as well as brand owners.
- Is it ethical for review sites to allow businesses to "buy off" negative reviews?
- Are sites like Yelp.com important to your brand?
- Does this lawsuit give you second thoughts about buying advertising from Yelp.com?
